Overview

Machine Learning Engineer Manager, TikTok - Trust and Safety. Our Trust and Safety RD team builds machine learning models and systems to identify and defend internet abuse and fraud on our platform, protecting billions of users and publishers worldwide. We leverage state-of-the-art ML technologies to scale and improve data processing, aiming to provide the best user experience and joy across the platform.

Responsibilities

1. Build efficient content recognition models for critical scenarios such as CSAM (Child Safety), CBS (Cross-border Sync), and Misinformation to enhance automation in content moderation.
2. Address challenges in cross-lingual, multimodal, and low-resource environments to improve model generalization under complex compliance constraints.
3. Collaborate with Recommendation, Policy, and Product teams to develop joint safety strategies, enabling flexible governance from content recognition to traffic control.
4. Participate in the full-stack development processfrom data curation and strategy modeling to model deploymentto continuously improve system response speed and compliance granularity.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Experience in multimodal algorithm development, with exposure to large model applications in real-world scenarios; familiarity with content moderation tasks; modeling experience in safety or compliance domains is preferred.
2. Strong understanding of compliance-driven requirements, with the ability to abstract policy needs and translate them into practical technical solutions.
3. Skilled in cross-functional collaboration, capable of driving joint policy design and integrated system implementation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Publications in top conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV) or experience in competitive AI challenges.
• Highly responsible and self-motivated, with a strong interest in content safety technology and the ability to adapt to the fast-evolving landscape of risk governance.

Job Information

Compensation Description (Annually): The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $208,800 - $438,000 annually. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Base pay is part of the Total Package and may include discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units. Benefits vary by location; employees have day-one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, paid parental leave, disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, and paid time off.
