Job Description

Warren Wilson College is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Part-time Strength and Conditioning Coach to support the development and performance of our student-athletes across all sports. This role is essential in enhancing athletic performance, reducing the risk of injury, and promoting lifelong fitness and movement skills.

The Part-time Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for developing and overseeing strength and conditioning programs for all sports. This includes designing training plans based on sound scientific principles, supervising and instructing athletes during training sessions, evaluating athletic performance, maintaining accurate records, and leading strength and conditioning sessions. The coach will work closely with athletic training staff and sport coaches to identify and address the specific needs of each team and individual athlete.

In addition to training responsibilities, the Part-time Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for maintaining the strength and conditioning facility, ensuring it is clean, safe, and well-equipped. The coach will also uphold and enforce policies and procedures that ensure the safe and professional operation of the facility.

This is a 10-month, part-time, exempt position running approximately from mid-August through mid-May, with two months off typically scheduled during June and July. The standard work schedule is primarily between 3:00–8:00 PM, with early morning hours occasionally required to support athletic programming. Evening and weekend hours may be necessary on an as-needed basis to support athletic teams and events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Kinesiology or related field.
  • A current certification for either the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification, or the CSCCA Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification (SCCC).
  • Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications.
  • A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training.
  • Experience and/or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for college populations.
  • Knowledge of current NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines .
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from a diverse range of identities and experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Kinesiology or related field.
  • Three to five years of related experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Aid in the design and implementation of strength training and conditioning programs in-season, and off-season for all school-sanctioned male and female athletic programs.
  • Work in cooperation with the sports medicine or athletic training staff in the strengthening of injured athletes.
  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff.
  • Help design and enforce policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines.
  • Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete progress in conjunction with the sport coaches.
  • Conduct an annual needs-analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach and the team's athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season.
  • Build out club sports strength and conditioning programs.
  • Coordinate student workers who assist with strength and conditioning training sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
